Information
The National Waste Report 2018 highlights that 5 million tonnes of metal waste was recovered and processed via recycling. According to the report this represents a total recovery rate of 90% with municipal sources accounting for 25% with only 2% for steel and aluminium cans recovered via kerbside collections. It must be mentioned that Western Australia had not mandated the recycling of specific cans and bottles at the time of the report, so this is likely to be higher, alongside the increasing rate of recycling and community awareness.
